Visual Reader Classes
Short Vowel Word Families
7 Weeks: $275
This program is intended to give struggling and early readers access to beginning reading. It is a 7 week course that meets twice a week (30 minute sessions). It is most appropriate for children who have knowledge of the alphabet and at least some of the sounds the letters make.
Sight Words
7 Weeks: $275
This program is intended to give struggling and early readers access to beginning reading using both sight words and other primary words to allow for sentence level reading. It is a 7 week course that meets twice a week (30 minute lessons). It is most appropriate for children who have knowledge of the basic letter sounds and at least some previous experience with sight words.
Short and Long Term Intensive Reading Programs
Length of time and price varies. Most intensive programs meet for 30 to 60 minutes a day 2 or more days a week.
This program is intended to give struggling readers access to reading using both sight and other primary words to allow for story level reading. It is most appropriate for children who have found difficulty with phonics or whole word learning strategies at school. These students may or may not have learning difficulties. Students should have some previous experience with reading and sight words, however limited.
About the Teacher
Lead teacher, Melody Ricketts, has 20 years teaching experience. As a previously certified teacher, she has dedicated her life to teaching students of all ages and abilities. A three-time graduate of EMU, she has her Master's in TESOL. Her mission at PTSM is simple: to provide high-quality personal one-on-one or small group instruction for her valued clients. Basic Reading and Writing
Ideal for pre-K to 1st grade students who are just learning or need more help in learning to read and write.

Basic Reading Comprehension
Ideal for children in (or entering) grades 2-4 or second language students with a focus on strategies for understanding text.

Advanced Comprehension, Analysis, and Essay Writing
Advanced Comprehension is great for advanced readers who want to work on having a deeper understanding of text, including discussion of author intentions, figurative language and use, and understanding theme-grades 4-12. The essay writing class is for a wide range of students from those just beginning to write to those writing college acceptance essays or attending summer college classes. Suggested for grades 4 and up. Text and topics are determined by reading level analysis.

General Subject Tutoring
For students who need help in mastering K-8 subjects outside of English classes or for those looking for enrichment of classes taken through home or other schooling choice. Classes are designed to follow state standards, in conjunction with teachers or parent /student interest or special topics.

Short Term Classes on Special Topics designed to be more relaxed and interactive. Sliding price scale depending on the number of students enrolled in the class. Need help writing a paper? Want to learn more about poetry? Art History? How cheese is made? Anything is available. Just let me know what you want to learn about or I can suggest some topics for you based on interests. Class length based on needs and topic.

Test Prep and Essay Writing
ACT, SAT, GRE, TOFL Study Classes Do NOT include Texts, but provide strategies, vocabulary study and development and practice prompts and questions. See above description under Advanced Comprehension and Essay writing for a description of the Essay writing class.

English as a Second Language
This class is intended for English Language Learners of all ages and ability levels. Content is determined by initial and ongoing assessments and individual needs.

Accent Reduction
and Business English
Ideal for foreign business employees and other foreign born students who wish to understand American Slang, Idioms, and who desire to work on reducing accent, increasing fluency, and practice recognizing and producing spoken American English.

7 Week Summer Classes
All classes are one on one and take place at a Jackson County Branch library, (determined by your area of preference and availability), OR online (depending on Covid and also client location). Classes include one makeup day. All classes include individualized needs assessment, work geared toward personal or parental goals as well as all materials (reading books may be borrowed from the library or purchased). Homework may or may not be assigned as determined at the first class and by class type. Classes meet once a week for 1 hour. Flexible days and dates. Get in touch to find out more.

1 Hour Class-Short Term
All classes include individualized needs assessment, work geared toward personal or parental goals as well as all materials. Homework may or may not be assigned as determined at the first class and by class type. This is for classes lasting less than 10 weeks.
